All about Alex

Alex is still into his little brother! He likes to do "This little piggy" with his little toes! He also likes to have "This little piggy" done on his own toes! Alex also likes to have his back/belly/arms/legs tickled. Lately, he's into basketball (he can actually dribble quite well!), football, riding his bike, going to the park, and of course, still the choo choo train. His favorite TV shows are Diego, Dora, and Wonder Pets. We also watch a little Blues Clues in bed in the morning. As for food, his favorite is still "Yo-Yo" (yogurt). He also enjoys crackers - which includes graham crackers, goldfish crackers, chips, etc.

Ryan's two week doctor appointment

I took Ryan to his second doctor appointment on Friday, August 14th. He's back above his birth weight, which is something they hope for at this time! His umbilical cord stub fell off a little too early, so the doctor cleaned it up and applied a medicine to help it heal. Otherwise, everything's great! Here were his stats:
Weight: 10lbs 13 oz / 95th percentile
Height: 23 inches / over 95th percentile
Head Circumference: 14.75 inches / 75th percentile

The nurse measured his height twice because she couldn't believe he was so tall!

Ryan's first doctor appointment

We took Ryan to his first appointment the day after we brought him home from the hospital (Tuesday). It was really hard to get his weight because he was crying and moving too much to get a good reading. So, they settled on 9lbs 12oz. Here were his stats:
Weight: 9lbs 12oz / 97th percentile
Height: 21.5 inches / 95th percentile
Head Circumference: 14.5 / 75th percentile

Some of the comments on the Infant Development sheet:
- Baby cannot be spoiled, therefore we'll give him all the loving we can!
- Usually sleeps 17 to 20 hours per day...yeah, he's on track with that!!!
- Smiles spontaneously and unselectively...is it just a coincidence that it happens right after he passes gas?!!!

Ryan's getting into a routine!

We're already able to get sleep in three-four hour increments!!! How exciting! Ryan has been eating at 11pm, 3am, and 7am! Every feeding is followed by a little spit up and an explosion in his diaper!!! He's keeping us busy with diaper changes and laundry. My favorite times during the day are the 10 minute time periods where his eyes are open and he's looking around. He's so observant! We gave him a bath tonight for the first time. I had trouble remembering how to do it!

So far, Alex is still interested in his baby brother. He likes to pet him gently. He also likes to do "This Little Piggy" with his toes. I get very nervous because Ryan's toes are sooooo little!

Mom, Tom, and Claire are going to watch the kids tomorrow so we can enjoy dinner out for our 11th anniversary. Wow, I can't believe we've been married for 11 years! I can't believe Chris has put up with me that long! And the real fun is just beginning...

Happy Birthday Ryan!

Ryan William Finch entered this world at 0804 on Friday, July 31, 2009. He weighed in at
10lbs 9.7 ozs and measured 21.5 inches tall! His head of hair is not as full and dark as Alex's was when he was born. He also has a different nose than Alex. Many say Ryan looks more like his mommy, which is nice since Alex is a mini-Chris!

Ryan has been sleeping well. The nurses are all using him to keep them warm! They say he loves being held.

Ryan met his big brother twice so far. At first, Alex has been a little shy, but before long, he's kissing and loving his little brother.

We'll be taking Ryan home Monday sometime after we are discharged. We can't wait to bring him home and begin to make memories as a family.
